REHABILITATION MX
Ferrol
This is a comprehensive rehabilitation of a row house/terrace house designed by Rodolfo Ucha Piñeiro in the nineteenth century. It is located in María Street in the rationalist neighborhood of Magdalena de Ferrol.
Like the old Gothic plot houses, the first floor is used by the young couple for professional purposes. The living quarters of the family are on the three upper floors, with the night area on the second and the day area on the two floors above. Kitchen, dining room, living room and the play area for the children are united in one space that is as open as possible. The intention is to encourage maximum contact between family members in times when we have the responsibility to strengthen these relationships.
The appearance of the facade is maintained in its entirety (to unify it) and both carpentry and ironwork are maintained according to regulations. The gallery maintains its use and serves as thermal and acoustic insulation.
The existing structure was preserved as much as possible and became the protagonist of the work/design. We managed to recover the chestnut wood of the beams and also of the beautiful staircase. The oil treatment on the new and old wood gives a very tactile aspect to the whole work. The patina will appear in all these elements, bringing the tones between old and new parts (of the work) closer together. We created holes in the new plaster walls to expose the stone and brick, thus showing the history of the building and its transformation over time.
